Koontz/ Veteran Owned
Two families, one signature
the service behind the Signature of Service

Founded by a veteran. Owned by a veteran.

Koontz Heating & Air was founded by a Navy Gunner's Mate in 1967. Today it's owned by an Army veteran whose family has worn the uniform for four generations. This page is their story.

The Koontz family

Jerry Koontz served in the Navy as a Gunner's Mate. In 1967, he and JoEtta Koontz founded Koontz Heating & Air in Daytona Beach — Jerry with the technical expertise, JoEtta with the business acumen — and the company has carried their name ever since.

The way Jerry ran the business came straight from the service: show up, do the job right, and put your name on the work. That habit became the Signature of Service, and it never left.

The Sturgell family

Brent Sturgell, the current owner, served in the Army in the Military Police — the fourth generation of his family to wear the uniform.

His great-grandfather Everett Sturgell was a Navy officer, executive officer aboard a destroyer. His grandfather James Sturgell was a Navy Gunner's Mate — the same rating Jerry Koontz held. His father Jim Sturgell served as an Army sergeant in the mechanized infantry.

Two families, two Gunner’s Mates, one company. Koontz was founded by a veteran, and it’s owned by one today.
